In Hold'em, players receive two face-down cards as their personal hand (hole cards) after which there is a round of betting. Three face-up board cards are turned simultaneously (called the “flop”) and another round of betting occurs. The next two face-up board cards are turned one at a time, with a round of betting after each card. The board cards are community cards, and a player may use any five-card combination from among the board and their hole cards. A player may even use all of the board cards and no personal cards to form a hand (play the board). To give the pot reason to be played for prior to any action starting, players in two positions are required post an amount before hands are dealt. These positions are termed big blind and small blind with the big blind usually being double the amount of the small blind. (In no limit games it is common to see a $2-$5 game. Alleviates the need for a .50 chip). The position to the right of the big blind is the dealer button. The dealer button is the most advantageous position because it is the last to act during each betting round.
