Online Poker, once you log a couple of hours under your belt, is no different than playing live poker in your local casino or on your kitchen table. Actually, it's easier as a lot of the logistics of the game like the dealing of the cards, the collecting of the discards, the shuffling, the counting up the pot and awarding it to the winner of the hand, are all done for you. This allows you to focus more on your game than the tasks associated with putting the game on.
There's a few things to consider prior to sitting down at a table and you'll have to ask yourself a few questions before you do. What kind of game do you want to play? What stakes? A cash game or a tournament? Full table play, or maybe a short handed table or even a heads-up game? Once you've answered these questions you will be ready to take a seat at the table.
You can take a seat a couple of ways. You can go to the Lobby screen and scan down the table listing under the ring games tab, or the tournament tab, or whatever the case may be, and this is what most experienced players would do as it allows you to select a table across a large criteria of table statistics. Maybe you want to play at a table that has large pots on average for the limit you've selected, or maybe you want to play in a game that tends to play more hands per hour than most. You can scan through the filters on the game listings screen to do this. Or, if you want to simply take a seat and are fairly indifferent to these idiosyncrasies, you can do it through the 'quick seat' menu. For first time players, this is advisable until you get used to the information rich lobby screen. You'll find the quick seat option as the last tab on the right once you've selected 'money play' and your game choice. Let's say you choose hold'em as the game type for the sake of the example. Chose 'quick seat' on the far right.
Now, it's just three simple clicks to your game. 1) chose your game rule type. Fixed limit, No limit, or Pot limit? A sit n go tournament? 2) Select the option that best suits what you're looking for. Then select the table type from the choices shown. 3) chose your stakes limit. The quick seat tab just makes it all so easy.
